Megabucks is a traditional-styled lottery game offering jackpot offered by The Massachusetts State Lottery along with many other successful games such as Mass Cash, CASH WinFall or KENO. It was first introduced on 16 November 1982. It uses a matrix of 6/42 so a player should choose 6 numbers from total numbers of 42. A player who can match those 6 numbers will then be called The Megabucks Jackpot Winner. In total, there have been 1,724 jackpot winners with a total amount of jackpot of $2.4 billion.
When joining the game, a player can choose the six numbers himself or he can take the ‘Quick Pick’ Option in which he can have the retailer or the computer to choose the numbers for him. Massachusetts Megabucks applies the traditional way using numbered balls for the draw but to make sure the drawing works well, they will do testing for 3 times before.
In the history, this Megabucks game first used the matrix of 6/30 but on 7 May 1983, the matrix was changed into 6/36. On 24 March 1991, the matrix was again turned into another of 6/42 and has continued to the current game.
The jackpot offered in the game commences at $400,000 and when there’s no winner in one draw, the amount will be rolled over in the next drawing. A record of winning the biggest jackpot was made by 6 winners in February and March 1984. The jackpot took 3 times of drawing that finally it was won when it reached the amount of $18.2 million. The prizes in the game will be given in the form of annuity and will be paid annually for 20 years time.The winner of the prizes need to claim the winning within 365 days of the drawing time.
