Lottery is everywhere in the world and most countries holding lottery games get many benefits from the game. The main benefit that the government can get from the lottery playing is the fund they could raise for good causes such as education and development. However, a country needs to set clear rules on how the lottery is going to be run because sometimes the people’s culture, religion and local values might not be in line with the lottery playing.

According to Dr Peter Igho, the Director General of the National Lottery Regulatory Commission in Nigeria, this is what his Commission is trying to formulate at the moment. He thinks that lottery business in Nigeria is good and will help collect a lot of money for Nigeria’s education and charity but everything about lottery gaming should be clear such as who can play the lottery, who organize it, and how the Trust Fund from the lottery gaming is spent. He wants to make sure that transparency and integrity become the main points for the lottery industry.  Igho will also regulate the ‘Baba Ijebu”, kiosks for selling the lottery tickets in Nigeria so that everyone who sell the lottery tickets can have their licenses.

The Commission will open the offices in all 14 states to regulate lottery and boost the selling. The offices will be in Sokoto, Kano, Jos, Yola, Kaduna in the North and Ilorin, Ibadan, Lagos, Benin, Warri, Abakaliki, Owerri and Yenagoa. Hopefully, lottery tickets selling in Nigeria can get higher so that the government can get more money to fund develop the country.
