The Badger 5 Lotto is a game that is part of the wider Wisconsin Lottery. The top prizes of Badger 5 start at $10,000, which is much higher than other state’s lotteries.
Wisconsin Lottery was made legal in 1988 and is run by the Department of Revenue in Wisconsin. It is also a part of the larger Multi-state Lotto association. Their main games, including Badger 5, are the Mega Millions, the Powerball, Supercash and others. Since it was founded, it has raised over $3 billion for the state of Wisconsin.
History of the Wisconsin Badger 5
Since 1988, when it was established, until 2003, this Lottery was aired on TV on a show called ‘The Money Game’, where people got to win cash prizes of at least $500.
In 1989, the lottery joined Lotto America which is a multi jurisdictional lotto. It then began to do nightly drawings in 1991, when they introduced Supercash on WISN-TV. Two more games were further added in 1993: Pick 3 and Pick 4, both of which showed the economic growth of the Lottery.
However, by 1999, its popularity was dwindling, although Badger 5 still continues and is played in most Lotteries across the US.
How to play the Badger 5
To play, the customer needs to purchase a panel which costs $1 per drawing. The customer then selects 5 different numbers from 1 through 31. They also have a choice of Quick Pick which chooses the numbers for you at random.
They can play from 2 to 7 draws in the following boxes on the panel going from right to left; though each one filled in will cost an extra $1.
If they were to make a mistake, they could mark a box called void and choose the numbers in the next box.
Collecting your winnings
To win, you have to match either 5 of 5 for the Jackpot; 4 of 5 for $50; 3 out of 5 for $2 or 2 out of 5 for just $1.
You must have signed your ticket to collect your winnings and the Jackpot must be paid out all at once. You can collect your winnings from a local retail store unless you have won the jackpot.
Should you win the jackpot, you would have to send the winning ticket to the Wisconsin lottery alongwith a copy of your ID.
Statistics of winning the Badger 5
The odds of winning the Jackpot, which is 5 of 5 numbers right, are 169,911 to 1. The odds decrease as the numbers you have to match reduce. These are as follows: for 4 of 5, odds are 1,308 to 1; for 3 of 5, odds are 53 to 1, and for 2 of 5, odds are 7 to 1.
Since its beginning, the Wisconsin Lottery has paid out $6.5 billion which is 56.51% of the revenue. Retailer’s compensations have also been at around $690 million which goes to the Wisconsin Businesses. 6.6 % has also gone to operational expenses and $3.5 billion to funding property tax. So, it is clear to say that a lot of the money earned goes back into the community.
