Olympic Flame was carried by more or less 8,000 people as it took a long journey to the UK. Those flame torch bearers were people who could give inspiration to those who watched the relay. It could be the moment for them to shine and inspire people worldwide with their courage and struggles. One of them was a 13-year-old boy, Kieran Maxwell a boy with one leg.

Kieran Maxwell, a teenage Olympics torch bearer who lost his limb due to very rare cancer, will now enjoy better life and be able to be a “normal” boy again. This can happen since he has got a new prosthetic leg to replace his leg after it was amputated year. The new prosthetic limb came from a very generous couple who had won the biggest UK’s lottery. In October 2010, this 13-year-old cute boy was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a very rare and aggressive form of cancer. This kind of cancer usually affects more or less 30 children per year. The amputation for young Kieran Maxwell had to be done below his left knee despite the undergoing chemotherapy. The amputation was needed to stop the spread of the cancer. However, the old replacement limb was considered heavy and it slowed down this active boy in doing his activities. Kieran’s parents, Nicola and Alistair from Heighington near Darlington, have been raising fund to buy a new and lighter prosthetic leg for their son. This is because they knew that their beloved son would be one of the Olympics torch bearers who would passed Bishop Auckland, County Durham on the Olympics Relay last month.

The help came to young Kieran Maxwell after he fell while he was carrying the Olympic torch while passing the street. At that time he was still wearing his current replacement limb which was considered heavy. Colin and Chris Weir, the winners of the biggest Britain Euromillions lottery heard about what had happened to Kieran. They were touched by story of Kieran and decided that they could do something useful to make Kieran’s life easier. These couple of Ayre had scooped $ 161 million pound sterling in the lottery draw last year. Instead of using the money buy what they wanted, they came up to calculation of five-digit amount of money to help Kieran get a new and light prosthetic limb. This unexpected donation came from Colin and Chris Weir after their neighbor, grandmother of Kieran’s friend at school told them about him and contacted them asking whether they could do something for Kieran. This inquiry aroused their sympathy and directly made up their mind to share their prize cash to buy a new prosthetic limb for the boy. The kind and generous couple said that they were very proud of getting the privilege to support Kieran to get a new limb. They were also touched by Kieran’s parents in their efforts to raise the fund for their kid in order to get their dreamed new limb.

Kieran’s parent stated that when the boy heard about the good news, he could not stop screaming and dancing around. The family still could not believe about the miracle that came to them. They were still pinching themselves, they said, showing that it was still unbelievable for them to get what their son had been dreaming of to have. The emotional parents also said that it would not be enough for them to be grateful to the Weirs for what they had done and donated to their son. According to some information, both Nicola and Alistair planned to continue to raise the fund, but it would not be for them. The fund would be handed over and proceed to Toma Fund, an organization that aims to help teenagers who are suffering from cancer.
